The sparkling Spanish water is a beautiful lagoon located behind Jan Thiel. Along the water are many resorts, hotels, apartments and restaurants. Because you can easily go to the sea from the lagoon, the Spanish Water is also home to small harbours. There are several boat tours and other water activities to book. Beaches
There are not many beaches along the Spanish Water itself except Santa Barbara Beach. Fortunately, there are a lot of beautiful beaches in the area. Playa Caracas Bay is located next to the Spanish Water and is a very popular beach spot among the locals. The beach is ideal for a BBQ or picnic. There are a number of picnic tables with palapas. The beach has no beds and is therefore not suitable for a pampering day. Happy Jan Thiel Beach for enthusiasts only a few minutes away by car.
Nearby are also some fantastic dive sites: Tugboat Beach and Director’s Bay. Tugboat Beach is also ideal for snorkeling.
Fort Beekenburg
Fort Beekenburg was built a few hundred years ago by the Dutch occupiers of the island at that time. The fort was built because the Spanish Water provided an opening for enemies to enter the land from the sea. To this day, the fort is well preserved and it is also possible to view the fort from the inside.
table mountain
Table Mountain is clearly visible from the Spanish Water. Table Mountain is a large flat mountain (hence the name). It is possible to climb Table Mountain. There are organized hikes that make it possible to climb Table Mountain at sunrise or sunset. Make sure you book this on time! Table Mountain is next to Christoffelberg on the west of the island, the highest climbable mountain on Curaçao. The view from Table Mountain is breathtaking and well worth doing.
Tip: The rocks of Table Mountain can become loose during the climb. It may be nicer to go up in the light and down again in the dark.
